Activity 1
Think about all of the books that you have read this year and recommend one for Curious Kiwi to read. On your blog list the title and author of the book and then provide a short description of it. What is the book about?
Grandma's kiwi Christmas
By Helen Mckinlay
About Grandma Only five sleeps till Santa and Grandma's a-go-go with mince pies and pantomimes. But with trouble at Santa's house, adventure calls, and our Gran packs her handbag, buttons on her snowsuit and zips off to the North Pole. Another delightfully zany escapade for Kiwi kids' favorite Grandma, who was last seen saving the All Blacks.

Activity 2

Read the following three reviews of books that are really popular right now in Canada. If you had to choose one for Curious Kiwi to read on the plane, which one would you choose? Post the name of the book that you would chose on your blog. Below the title explain why you would choose that book.

Book 1: Catching Fire (The Hunger Games #2) by Suzanne Collins
Against all odds, Katniss has won the Hunger Games. She and fellow District 12 tribute Peeta Mellark are miraculously still alive. Katniss should be relieved, happy even. After all, she has returned to her family and her longtime friend, Gale. Yet nothing is the way Katniss wishes it to be. Gale holds her at an icy distance. Peeta has turned his back on her completely. And there are whispers of a rebellion against the Capitol - a rebellion that Katniss and Peeta may have helped create. Much to her shock, Katniss has fueled an unrest she's afraid she cannot stop. And what scares her even more is that she's not entirely convinced she should try. As time draws near for Katniss and Peeta to visit the districts on the Capitol's cruel Victory Tour, the stakes are higher than ever. If they can't

As time draws near for Katniss and Peeta to visit the districts on the Capitol's cruel Victory Tour, the stakes are higher than ever. If they can't prove, without a shadow of a doubt, that they are lost in their love for each other, the consequences will be horrifying.
Book 2: Matilda by Roald DahlC:\Users\rwil313\Desktop\Matilda book cover.jpg
Matilda is a sweet, exceptional young girl, but her parents think she's just a nuisance. She expects school to be different but there she has to face Miss Trunchbull, a kid-hating terror of a headmistress. When Matilda is attacked by the Trunchbull she suddenly discovers she has a remarkable power with which to fight back. It'll take a superhuman genius to give Miss Trunchbull what she deserves and Matilda may be just the one to do it!
Book 3: Diary of a Wimpy Kid – The Ugly TruthC:\Users\rwil313\Desktop\DoaWK image.jpg
Greg Heffley has always been in a hurry to grow up. But is getting older really all it’s cracked up to be? Greg suddenly finds himself dealing with the pressures of boy-girl parties, increased responsibilities, and even the awkward changes that come with getting older—all without his best friend, Rowley, at his side. Can Greg make it through on his own? Or will he have to face the “ugly truth.”
I will choose book 1, because this book is about the fighting and a little hook at the end of the review, so I think the hook is very interesting. This review didn't tell me all of the story and at the end it ask me about what do I think will happen next, so it is telling me to keep reading so I don't get bored at the end of the story. This review is telling me the begging of the story and the middle and it is telling me to read the end.
Bonus Activity
It’s time to use your imagination to write a short story. I’ve provided you with three different beginnings for a story. Choose your favorite beginning and finish the story. What happens next? You can use your imagination and create any ending that you want. To earn full points, you must post, at least 8-10 sentences, on your blog.

1. I looked around the room. Nothing seemed unusual, but then…
I saw my mom is cooking and my dad is looking at the news paper, but my things are started to disappear... "Cathy is time for dinner!" mom shout out, there is a girl walk out of mom and dad's bedroom and she had a teddy bear holding by her arm, "Yes I am ready" the strange girl said, and I quickly walk in front of that strange girl and said "Hey! I am Cathy, who are you? By the way, where did you get my old lost teddy bear from?"
" I am Cathy and that is not your teddy bear that is my, and I didn't loose it!" she says. Ding Ding Ding Ding Ding ~ I woke up in a shock and I knew this is an usual day, and I knew everything is a dream.

2. I knew it was going to be an usual day when my mom came into my bedroom and said
"Cathy, remember today is our space ship trip! Come on wash your face and bush your teeth the breakfast is ready for you" mom shout out from downstairs, then I quickly go wash my face and eat the breakfast. After i ate my breakfast I go brush my teeth. then get on the car. After we arrived dad says he is not feeling well, so he is not going on the spaceship, before we get on the spaceship we have to dress like an astronaut, we finally got on the spaceship then the trip had started!!!

3. The spaceship was out of control and only two people could save us is... Dad and captain but captain had lost in space, so we only can call dad " But I don't have a phone", then I suddenly saw a says SOS emergency space phone then we pick it up and call dad to see if he can help us, "Hello~ is it dad?"
" congratulation now you guys know how to be safe in space" A strange sound
"Captain?" I ask
" Yep it's a great surprise, right? This is a birthday party that you mom and dad had design for you have a great birthday Cathy!"

  1. Hi Ashleigh,

It's awesome to see you're still trying hard on this! Wow! Look at all those stories! They all fit together! I really enjoyed that, you're very creative. At first I was like "why is she making 3 stories?" and then BAM! You hit me with a plot twist and a third act! Well done.

I hope you're enjoying our Summer Learning Journey and keep doing your best!

  2. Hi Mr Barlow!

Tell the truth I didn't really fit all of them together because I change a little little bit of the beginning of the sentence that examiner gave me. I change it because I read it paragraph by paragraph, so I don't know what will happen next paragraph, so I was like "WHAT!!" when I saw it.
