Week 2 Day 6

Week 2 Day 6

Week 2: Culture, Customs and Climate
This week you will be introduced to life in a new country. You will learn about the language, weather, family structure and school system in that country. You will then be invited to create and share your blogs with people currently living in each of these countries! To get started, take a look at the activities for Day 6 – Hola!
Day 6 – Hola!
Kia ora! G’day! Selamat! Guten Morgen! Hola! Welcome to the beautiful country of your choice. Before you leave the airport and go to your hotel, you will want to learn how to say hello in the language of your country. Look at the table below to learn basic words and phrases that you may need when you are travelling around the country.

Activity 1

Once you have read these phrases you will be ready to leave the airport and head to your hotel. Take a moment and imagine how you might feel if you were standing in the airport in a foreign country and you had to figure out how to communicate with people in a brand new language. Would you be scared? Would you feel confident? Write a short poem that describes how you might be feeling (i.e. excited, happy, scared, nervous, etc).

Feeling excited and nervous at the same time.
Feeling excited and nervous could always happen.
As the time click clock by it's your part to do your stuff.
Never leave a buddy behind.
Traveling on this lovely journey is like 123.
Let your happy thoughts come by and wait.
Until your done.

Activity 2
Take a selfie that captures how you might be feeling. I think that I would most likely be feeling scared.

Bonus Activity
Translate the following five basic travel phrases into Spanish, German, Malaysian, Japanese, Arabic or Afrikaans. Use the Google Translate website to do the translations.
Type the English phrase into the box on the left. Choose the language that you want it translated into on the right and then click the blue ‘Translate’ button. It will translate the English word or phrase into another language. Pretty cool ‘eh?!

  6. Hi Charlotte,

Great effort with this blog - I love the way that you translated the five key travel phrases into not one, but five different languages. Good on you!

I also love that you posted a great selfie. I, too, would have been pretty scared to travel to a brand new place. The nice thing about traveling to Australia is that the people speak the same language (English) and they will want to help you as much as they possibly can. I am confident that everyone will be really friendly and very nice!

I have had the opportunity to travel to Australia a few times over the past few years and I have always been treated very well by the Aussies. They're usually very outgoing and laid back!

Keep up the great work with your blogging, Charlotte. I can't wait to see what you learn next about Australia on your summer learning journey!

    Cheers,
    Rachel :)

  7. Hi Charlotte,

It is the last day of blogging so I thought I better say "Hello" and thank you for participating in the Summer Learning Journey. I know you tried really hard this time and I know that you will continue to do your best at school this year, because that is the kind of person you are.

I wish you all the very best for 2017 and that you face all your challenges head on with a grin on your face. You are a star pupil and I know you'll be successful with that attitude.

    Kia Kaha, Charlotte,
