W1 Day 1, Pativai

Activity 1
After you have read the quick facts about each place you must choose ONE country that you would like to ‘visit.’ On your blog post the name of the country and tell us why you have chosen to visit it. Please give, at least, two reasons for choosing the country.

I have chosen to do Canada as I have never been to Canada nor learnt about Canada so I am stretching myself and I am going to be learning about a new country. I have also learnt (From the quick facts.) that Canada is the second largest country in North America .

The second reason why I chose this country is because it has a lot of things that I know that I have not learnt like the other country's but Canada is a fantastic place to learn about and learn what they do too.

Activity 2
On Google, research the country that you have chosen to visit and write, in your own words, three interesting facts about that country. They must be facts that weren’t already provided on the World Map.

Fact one about Canada - Canada is also home to the waterfall that is beautiful amazing and fantastic Niagara falls.

Fact two about Canada - About four years ago Canada had a population of 35 million

Fact three about Canada- Canada has a lot of lakes they have 3 million lakes in Canada.

Pativai's Activity 2 day 3

Activity 2
Imagine that you have been asked to create your very own airline. What would you call it? Design a simple logo for your airline and post it on your blog. You must include a short explanation of your logo below the picture.

My airline is called Crown Airline because we have the best safety instructions best flight plane and we also have a great awesome logo.

Pativai's Activity 1 Day 3

Day 3 - Buying a ticket
Now that you have chosen your country it is time to start planning your trip. One of the first things you will need to do is to buy an airplane ticket. There are many, many airlines that fly around the world. Some of the most common are:
Air Canada Air New Zealand
C:\Users\rwil313\Desktop\Air Canada logo.png                                C:\Users\rwil313\Desktop\Air New Zealand image.png

Emirates             Air Asia
C:\Users\rwil313\Desktop\Emirates logo.png                 C:\Users\rwil313\Desktop\Air Asia logo.png
When you get onto the airplane you will be asked to watch a short safety video that tells you how to stay safe when flying in a plane. Arguably, the best aiplane safety videos are produced by Air New Zealand.
Activity 1
Watch both of the current Air New Zealand safety videos. The first is a video that stars the All Blacks. The second is a video that stars Rhys Darby and Anna Faris (Hollywood actress).  Links for the videos are found below:
Air New Zealand ‘Men In Black’ video
Air New Zealand ‘Safety in Hollywood’ video
Once you have finished watching the videos, go to your blog and list three things that you need to do to stay safe on an airplane.

1 . Make sure that when you see the seat belt sign glows you need to put your seat belt on and when you need to get up just pull onto the lift buckle you can also tighten the seat belt by pulling onto the black loose belt connected to the buckle.

2 . When a oxegen mask come down place the strap over your head and then the two elastics on the side of the mask. Make sure that you do your mask befor your mates.

3. When a emergency is about to happen you need to make sure that you take the life jacket on the side or under your seat. Rip the bag open by pulling on the red tab take the life jacket out and buckle the life jacket up. when exiting the plane pull on the red tag and for more air in the life jacket blow into the tube. There are life jacket for the smaller ones.

On your blog, tell us what two things you would like to do if you had the chance to visit Wellington. Would you go to the botanical gardens or visit the Beehive? Perhaps you would prefer to go shopping on Cuba Street or go out for dinner on Quay Street…

Bonus Activity = 8 points

I have never been to wellington but by the site it sounds and looks amazing. i would really want to go shopping and check out the new clothes and shoes they have in store and if I did go I would want to compare the things in wellington to the things we have up here in Auckland. i have actually written a story about a family and they stay down in wellington in Porirua and then they moved up to Auckland and they had a great time. I would also like to go out for dinner at denny's beaus eit is my favourite place to eat when we got out, and also we would stay there for about one week.

This is my story called My Auckland Home

Pativai's Day 2 Activity 2

Activity 2
One of the most popular activities in Madrid, the capital city of Spain, is called ‘Bullfighting.’ It has been a part of Spanish culture for centuries. In bullfighting people called ‘toreros and ‘matadors’ fight with a live bull. The toreros do most of the fighting and, ultimately, capture the bull and tie it up. Once it has been caught, the matador joins the fight and kills the bull. Although most toreros and matadors are men, there are some women who also compete in the sport.
Not everyone supports bullfighting in Spain. In fact, about 30% of the population want it to be banned (stopped) completely. What do you think? On your blog tell us whether or not you think that bullfighting should be banned in Spain. Please provide, at least, two reasons to support your decision.

I think that bull fighting should not be banned because there is only 30% that want's it to be banned what about everyone else it won't be fair to everyone else why because you are just depending it on some people, sure some other people across the world wants it to be banned some people are unsure and some people just want to carry bull fighting on, well I think we should listen to those people who wants to carry on bull fighting hear what they have to say and if the people who don't want to keep bull fighting you don't have to see watch or do anything to have to do with bull fighting.

we should carry on the tradition of bull fighting maybe the bulls might of had gotten loose so they need to be locked in a secure steel stadium, we need to make sure that we can keep the people who don't want the bull fighting to go happy the opposition side happy to so we have a fair fight for everyone in Spain and we need to keep the people who are entertaining happy and the bull happy to.

Pativai's Day 2 Activity 1

For Day 2 Activity 1 I have chosen to go with the country Malaysia.

Now that you have chosen your country, it is time to decide where, within your country, you would like to visit. Many tourists will choose to visit the capital city of a country. It is often quite large and full of interesting things to see and do.
Activity 1
Before you go overseas it will be important that you learn a bit about the capital city of your country. Hop online and find out about the capital city of your country. Use this information to complete the five sentences below:
  1. The name of the capital city is Kuala Lupur
  2. The population of the capital city is 6.873 million
  3. In January, the weather in the capital city is usually burning hot
  4. The capital city is located in the southern of Malaysia
  5. The languages most commonly spoken in the capital city are Bahasa and some can speak English

Activity 2

On Google, research the country that you have chosen to visit and write, in your own words, three interesting facts about that country. They must be facts that weren’t already provided on the World Map.

My country was Australia . My first fact, that Australia is the sixth largest country by the area it is pretty big but not to big to beat Russia and Asia. Fact 2. Did you know that Australia's name came from the people in Latin Australia actually means southern so that is pretty cool to know where the name came from.Fact 3. Australia held two Olympic games the first one was in 1956 in Melbourne and the second one in 2000 in Sydney.

I knew this fact new Zealand changed their flag, because I had researched this and found cool things and I shared it to my family when the news came on with New Zealand is about to change their flag. Australia had claimed their Flag eleventh of January 1903 but claimed their flag on September the 3rd 1901. We claimed our flag on twenty fourth of march 1902 but started using the flag since 1869.

I have chosen to go with Australia because it has a great tropical vibe to it, and also they have their own kind of twist in sports, although I love sports I still love the way that new Zealand play's but in Australia it is great to learn new things . I have also been to Australia for a sporting event for my sister and we stayed with heaps of family members and we stayed in Brisbane for two tournaments in wakaama then drove to Melbourne for a relaxation time.

I did actually know that Australia has six states but what I did not know was that they had a gem called the opal gem. Australia is a great place and I know that some family members stay in Sydney so sometimes I learn some things from them, and since my grandparents had taken recent trips there I learn a couple things from them too.

Pativai's most proud of writing

This is about what I am most proud of and what I learned in my literacy. With a bit of help I managed to get a lot of stuff done and improve on my reading and writing. I was stuck in the pit most times but by learning new stuff I tried to get out of the pit and climbing out to learn more and new stuff.

Pativai's Animal Court Reflection

Mrs Parkers literacy group has been learning about plays. We used this to help us with our learning so that when we are speaking in front of a audience we need to know what we need to improve on a bit more. I have used video notes, to help with my learning beacause, it really does not help when you have to go, back and then you know what to do, that is why I use video notes so when a make a note on when I stop a video, and then I now what my next steps are for another time.

Lights Camera Action: Animal Court

Earlier this term we were practicing our fluency reading aloud with expression.
We each got a role in a short play from the school journals and had less than one week to practice and present each play.
We also created our own success criteria to explain just how we would be successful in this task.

Pativai's Why we should start eating insects

Mrs parkers literacy group has been working on pursuassive writing. Our topic was that if we wanted to eat insects or if we didn't want to eat insects. At first I thought it wa going to be distcusting but then I watched a couple of videos and it kinda got me into eating them. Did you know that if we eat insects we can have a lot of protien in our body eaven vitimans.

P.O.V -  We should start eating insects

Reason One

  • It is healthy for the body and even more healthier than meat

  • Animals are not healthy for the human body and only part of the body is edible but with the insects they are more edible than meat.

  • Insects contain not that much greenhouse gases and it will be better for the environment

Conclusion - Those were my strong reasons why I strongly believe that we should start eating insects. It has a lot of protein vitamins and it is so healthy for the human body. It can be very delicious, but look very disgusting. You should start eating insects because it will help yourself the environment and still be very delicious.

I strongly agree that we should start eating insects and these are the three reasons why. They are healthier for the body and healthier than meat, the insects are way more edible than other foods such as chickens cows and sheeps. Insects don’t carry that much greenhouse gasses but cows and pigs carry a lot of greenhouse gasses.

Firstly, I think we should start eating insects because it is way more healthier than meat such as chickens, sheeps and cows. Eating insects will give you more iron vitamins and protein to your body. Although people think that insects are disgusting and gross they can be very healthy and delicious. The reason why it is so healthy is because they contain heaps of vitamins and protein in there body. Not only is it good for your body and health but also, it is great for the environment.

Secondly, insects are way more edible than meat such as cows and chickens. Insects are only eighty percent edible, when I mean there eighty percent edible I mean that is how much of their body you can eat. With chickens they are fifty percent edible and with cow’s they are forty percent edible. Farming can take up, heaps of space of the world and houses you need to pay for food for the animals, and with the houses you need to pay for power. Because all those things can cost you a lot of money, trying to get insects can cost you nothing. You can easily just feed them with scraps then whenever you are ready to cook, just start taking the insects.

Thirdly, insects don’t carry that much greenhouse gasses. Cows carry a lot of greenhouses gasses and it is very bad for the environment. To produce meat you would also need to use water and mostly sheeps and pigs can use up a lot of water same with cows. Insects only use up not that much water to produce them this is because of what kinds of things they eat. That can give people less use of water to use to produce them. Insects can be very delicious, for instance people say that crickets taste like potato chips and silk worms taste like popcorn.

Those were my strong reasons why I strongly believe that we should start eating insects. It has a lot of protein vitamins and it is so healthy for the human body. It can be very delicious, but look very disgusting. You should start eating insects.

Pativai's tsunami Writing

This is my writing about the things I have learnt about tsunami's. It starts of with what a tsunami is and then it starts to get into how to be safe from the tsunami's. I have learnt so much about tsunami's.

Tsunami

A tsunami is a huge wave that can causes heaps of destruction, it can destroys huge tall buildings, cars, houses, farms, and schools. It can go up to 500 metres tall and the tallest tsunami ever was 30.6 million metres. A tsunami is named after the Japanese and it really means harbour wave in English. Harbour wave means a shelter for boats for when the ocean gets a bit rough. A tsunami can cause so much destruction it can wash houses schools and cars away. It goes over a city or an town and then crashes down destroying heaps of lives trees and can even destroy mountains.

When you think it is just an normal day and you're on the beach but you hear this alarm, it mean you need to evacuate and go straight to high ground. There are warning signs that you would hear to inform, you that a dangerous tsunami is going to be coming. There are warning signs around the whole world to make sure people can be safe from a huge chomping wave, there is something called the ring of fire. The ring of fire is the places of underwater volcanoes and if it ever erupts something called an warning buoy would send a signal to land to make they are safe.

To be safe you need to listen to the radio news and any alarms for the people who live closer, to the water or for the people near the water. This is to inform you to get to high ground. The reason why you need to get to high ground is that that you don’t get injured by the crushing waves. A tsunami can be very dangerous because of it’s rough waters and it’s strength can pull you and you can drown. By going to high ground you can be safe from sweeping waters and the rough waters.

You can spot a tsunami easily on the beach, the tide goes far back that mean the chomping wave is going to hit. You can start to see the dangerous wave when it starts to come into shallow water it gets bigger then bigger and even bigger then hits land and that’s when you need to start getting into high ground.

After the tsunami it will still be filled with water and things that the tsunami washed up. After all the water is gone you will be sort of left will this huge pile of things that have been washed up but destroyed. Tsunami’s are so big and dangerous that is why you need to hear out or see what people are doing to try and get to high ground.

Pativai's Field Poem

This my poem about the field, the poem is trying to show you what kind of things are in my perspective of the field. I used some personification and metaphors to make it hard for people to guess what I was writing about. It was hard to come up with some metaphors but Mrs Parker helped me, and then she explained what that can be simmilar to.

Pativai's Palm Tree and Snail

The purpose of this was to show what kind od personification and some metophors were in the poem and here is a example of the personification and some metophors are in the poem. This is also showing a example of what kind of effect or the purpose.

WALT: Identify poetic language features
SC: identify and use language features

Poems to Read
Palm Tree by Philippa Werry SJ P4 N1 2009
Snail by John Malone SJ Sept 2011 L3

Complete the below table.
Analyse the poems to find out what language features are used. Find and show examples.
Decide on and justify what purpose or effect these features had on the poem.

Language Feature
Palm Tree
Snail
Purpose/Effect
Metaphor
Hula skirts dancing all by themselves
He is an tank, tough and tenacious, passing over
A metaphor is when you do not use the words like and as. E.G it was a stormy night the wind blew straight through the doors.
Personification
A kennel full of shaggy dogs straining on an lead
He is an athlete. In the race to be the slowest he excels
Something or an animal like it is alive.E.G The palm tree danced through the clouds.

  1. Compare and contrast: Explain the difference between a simile and a metaphor.

  1. Both of these poems are filled with metaphors, choose one metaphor from each poem and describe what you think it means for the subject of the poem.

Palm Tree
Snail
Metaphor Example
All these things until the clouds darken, the wind gets stronger, the storm gets nearer.
He is a hobo, his worldly goods humped upon his back
Explain what you think it means
I think it means that they are trying to explain what the palm tree looks like when there is some kind of storm.
They are trying to get the reader to know that the snail crawls along with an shell on its back.

Pativai's Animation Of Rain

This is a animation of a poem called rain written by hone tuwhare. This is a story of what people do when they have a disabilite to not see, hear, smell, feel or taste. He explains things about  how he feels about rain and what other people fell about it when they go and play in the rain. I like this poem because it is really insperastional with al the things that he says about rain.
