Day 5 – Boarding the Plane
It’s the big day! You’re about to hop on an airplane and travel to a new country. Curious Kiwi will keep you company on the journey. Unfortunately, Curious Kiwi forgot his book and he is worried that he’ll get bored on the long flight without anything to read. He asks you for some help…

Activity 1
Think about all of the books that you have read this year and recommend one for Curious Kiwi to read. On your blog list the title and author of the book and then provide a short description of it. What is the book about?

Image result for kapai the book

Kapai's Capatial visit by Uncle Anzac

Kapai's capatial visit is about a kiwi that travels with his mates in the yellow bus all the way to Wellington. They visit there friend Pipi as she shows them around the place they come upon a large building which was the beehive since it was very windy down in wellington Kapai flew up into the air travelling over the home of wellington. After Kapai was flying through the air he landed in the middle of a fairy with some albatross. Then Kapai ended his long journey with a nice great nap.

Activity 2
Read the following three reviews of books that are really popular right now in Canada. If you had to choose one for Curious Kiwi to read on the plane, which one would you choose? Post the name of the book that you would chose on your blog. Below the title explain why you would choose that book.

C:\Users\rwil313\Desktop\Catching Fire book cover image.jpg

Book 1: Catching Fire (The Hunger Games #2) by Suzanne Collins
Against all odds, Katniss has won the Hunger Games. She and fellow District 12 tribute Peeta Mellark are miraculously still alive. Katniss should be relieved, happy even. After all, she has returned to her family and her longtime friend, Gale. Yet nothing is the way Katniss wishes it to be. Gale holds her at an icy distance. Peeta has turned his back on her completely. And there are whispers of a rebellion against the Capitol - a rebellion that Katniss and Peeta may have helped create. Much to her shock, Katniss has fueled an unrest she's afraid she cannot stop. And what scares her even more is that she's not entirely convinced she should try. As time draws near for Katniss and Peeta to visit the districts on the Capitol's cruel Victory Tour, the stakes are higher than ever. If they can't prove, without a shadow of a doubt, that they are lost in their love for each other, the consequences will be horrifying.
Book 2: Matilda by Roald DahlC:\Users\rwil313\Desktop\Matilda book cover.jpg
Matilda is a sweet, exceptional young girl, but her parents think she's just a nuisance. She expects school to be different but there she has to face Miss Trunchbull, a kid-hating terror of a headmistress. When Matilda is attacked by the Trunchbull she suddenly discovers she has a remarkable power with which to fight back. It'll take a superhuman genius to give Miss Trunchbull what she deserves and Matilda may be just the one to do it!
Book 3: Diary of a Wimpy Kid – The Ugly TruthC:\Users\rwil313\Desktop\DoaWK image.jpg
Greg Heffley has always been in a hurry to grow up. But is getting older really all it’s cracked up to be? Greg suddenly finds himself dealing with the pressures of boy-girl parties, increased responsibilities, and even the awkward changes that come with getting older—all without his best friend, Rowley, at his side. Can Greg make it through on his own? Or will he have to face the “ugly truth.”

I think that the curious kiwi should take catching fire the hunger games as it is a adventure drama and a book that has a lot of suprises each one of these books has their own movie but the book gives more detail the the movie. while you read you actually start your adventure in the book.

Bonus Activity
It’s time to use your imagination to write a short story. I’ve provided you with three different beginnings for a story. Choose your favourite beginning and finish the story. What happens next? You can use your imagination and create any ending that you want. To earn full points, you must post, at least 8-10 sentences, on your blog.

  1. I looked around the room. Nothing seemed unusual, but then I saw shadows that looked like three men trying to sneak around the house. I got out of my bed and before I touched the ground, I heard foot steps and whispering voices as light like a mouse, I opened the draw and grabbed my staple gun. The foot steps got louder and louder, I was really scared what about my brother and sisters in their room, I thought that they might of had been scared too, the creeks in the wooden floor was loud as I tried to hide " jiggle jumble jiggle" as the door knob screeched with a loud noise. "Errrrhhh" the door opened slowly with one two three heads in the lights shadow. I heard things crashing onto the floor banging noises and whispers like a ghost through the air . I was scared I hid in the closet, " aachuu" I sneezed loudly their heads turned to face the closet door they reached out for the closet handle then ......

Day 3 - Buying a ticket
Now that you have chosen your country it is time to start planning your trip. One of the first things you will need to do is to buy an airplane ticket. There are many, many airlines that fly around the world. Some of the most common are:
Air Canada Air New Zealand
C:\Users\rwil313\Desktop\Air Canada logo.png                                C:\Users\rwil313\Desktop\Air New Zealand image.png

Emirates             Air Asia
C:\Users\rwil313\Desktop\Emirates logo.png                 C:\Users\rwil313\Desktop\Air Asia logo.png
When you get onto the airplane you will be asked to watch a short safety video that tells you how to stay safe when flying in a plane. Arguably, the best airplane safety videos are produced by Air New Zealand.
Activity 1
Watch both of the current Air New Zealand safety videos. The first is a video that stars the All Blacks. The second is a video that stars Rhys Darby and Anna Faris (Hollywood actress).  Links for the videos are found below:
Air New Zealand Men In Black’ video
Air New ZealandSafety in Hollywood’ video
Once you have finished watching the videos, go to your blog and list three things that you need to do to stay safe on an airplane.

Before taking off when the seat belt sign is on click your seat belt together and then tighten by pulling on the black strap. When wanting to get out of your seat then easily lift up the lift releaver.

When oxygen mask drop down from the ceiling then place it over your head and the tighten by pulling the white straps on the side make sure you place your mask on before helping others.

When needing to evacuate the airplane pull the life jacket from under your seat or if you are on premium or business it will be on the side of your seat.

Activity 2
Imagine that you have been asked to create your very own airline. What would you call it? Design a simple logo for your airline and post it on your blog. You must include a short explanation of your logo below the picture.
My airline is called Crowns up

Bonus Activity - Airplane tickets can be very expensive. W1 Day 1, Pativai

Activity 1
After you have read the quick facts about each place you must choose ONE country that you would like to ‘visit.’ On your blog post the name of the country and tell us why you have chosen to visit it. Please give, at least, two reasons for choosing the country.

I have chosen to do Canada as I have never been to Canada nor learnt about Canada so I am stretching myself and I am going to be learning about a new country. I have also learnt (From the quick facts.) that Canada is the second largest country in North America .

The second reason why I chose this country is because it has a lot of things that I know that I have not learnt like the other country's but Canada is a fantastic place to learn about and learn what they do too.

Activity 2
On Google, research the country that you have chosen to visit and write, in your own words, three interesting facts about that country. They must be facts that weren’t already provided on the World Map.

Fact one about Canada - Canada is also home to the waterfall that is beautiful amazing and fantastic Niagara falls.

Fact two about Canada - About four years ago Canada had a population of 35 million

Fact three about Canada- Canada has a lot of lakes they have 3 million lakes in Canada.

Bonus Activity
Write a letter to a friend or family member to tell them that you are going to visit your country of choice. In your letter, please tell them where you are going, why you have decided to go to the particular country and how long you will be away. Feel free to invite them to join you, if you’d like!

My favorite thing to do on my blog for the summer learning journey is learning new things. Also I like that it keeps me busy in the school holidays when ever I have nothing to do.

W2 D7 BA: By Faith

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day?
Or
Breakfast is not the most important meal of the day?

I strongly believe that breakfast is the most important meal of the day because without breakfast you wouldn’t be fully energized for the day so you won’t get enough energy to do school work or work for adults.

Bonus - speech BY:Shanya

During the holidays I went to Japan. These are the things that I did in japan. I went to the monkey hot spring it was so fun looking at the monkeys and the species of the monkeys are snow monkeys. The water in the pool looked hot. I also went to the zoo in japan. In the zoo I saw some panda's, seal's, monkey's and underground creatures. I went to the yakushi-ji temple and looked at the amazing art and designs in the temple and outside of the temple. I also went to a restaurant to eat some dumplings in noodle, it was so yum. The name of the restaurant was robot restaurant. The red seats were comfy. I watched some nice programs on the TV. I loved my visit to japan!

Bonus - Foot art By:Shanya

W4, day19 - Activity2 - Amazing vehicles BY:Shanya

Air bike Aero X -

I like the air bike aero X because it looks cool and it looks comfortable too. It also looks very easy to navigate, because there a steering wheel and probably 2 pedals. The design looks amazing and also if there was a animal on the road you wouldn't touch the animal because it can hover. To me it's like a hover car.

W4, Day19 -Activity - Vehicle Rides By:Shanya

Bus – 45 minute ride; Two stops along the way to look at interesting villages; $8 for the trip (return)
I would choose the bus ride because you get to look at some interesting villages. Also because it's 45 minutes long so you can take you're time looking at different things. The price is only $8 which is better than the train because the train is 25 min long and it's $12.

Bonus - Kakapo By:Shanya

I think that they should gather 3 males and 3 females, then they should find a park and put a big big green house a plant some trees then add a pond of fresh water. Then you can put the kakapos into the green house.

W4, Day18 - Activity 2 - National animals By:Shanya

Koi
The koi fish lives in ponds. They eat plants, insects, snails, worms and algae.

Raccoon dog
The raccoon dog lives in the forest, near to the water. They eat frogs, lizards, rodents, seedsberries and fruit.

W4,day18 - Activity 1 - Story By:Shanya

I had just entered the zoo when, all of a sudden, I saw 20 pandas in their enclosure, inside of their enclosure was plenty bamboo a stream of clean water and some play toys. I walked past the panda's then i saw a tunnel that you could crawl through so I decided to crawl through the tunnel. The tunnel was see through. I could only dirt, but then I looked closely and there were termites and worms and some grubs in the dark dirt. I started crawlings following the glowing line till I was out of the tunnel. Then I turned right and kept on walking, there were birds flying around. I saw some seals doing tricks with big bouncy inflated beach balls. Then I turned left towards the monkey enclosure, the zoo keeper was feeding the monkey bananas and she was also playing with the monkey. I got bored to I returned to the exit of the zoo. I went to the souvenir shop and bought a soft cuddly seal. They took a photo of me against a green background then they animated the photo so the background was no longer green it was some monkeys in the background. I went back to the hotel and slept!

W4, day17 - Activity 2 - Three famous places By:Shanya

I would take my visitor to the sky tower so that they can see the city of sails.
I would take them to the beehive
I also would take them to waiheke island

W4, day17 - Activity 1 - Monkey hot spring By:Shanya

I want to visit the Jigokudani Monkey Park. I want to visit that place because in new zealand you don't get to see monkeys in a hot spring. Since I like animals I think I would like to observe what they do. Also I haven't seen a snow monkey before.

W4, day16 - Activity 2 - Geijutsu no hi (Arts day) By:Shanya

My one is Geijutsu no hi which means Arts day in japanese. Everyone will have the day off from work and school. If they want they can go in a group to their nearest temple and make some paintings, make a traditional dance or make a short movie. And they will have 1st, 2nd and 3rd for each topic. This day is held on the 28 of january.

W4, Day16 - Activity 1 - National celebration By:Shanya

I would visit the Yakushi-ji temple because It looks familiar to the one my mum visited when she was in the embassy of japan. I would eat some dumplings. I really like dumpling in noodles though. I would watch TV when I finish doing all of that, then sleep.
